BALI KITE FESTIVAL

The Bali Kites Festival is a vibrant annual event held during the summer months, typically from July to August, sometimes extending into October. The timing depends on the favorable windy season in Bali. This year, the festival’s main event, 'RARE ANGON,' will take place at Mertasari Beach in Sanur from August 15-18, 2024. Additionally, some events will occur at Padanggalak Beach near The Village Home.
The festival attracts hundreds of kite troupes from both local and international communities, who gather to fly their magnificent traditional kites. A traditional Balinese gamelan orchestra plays during the take-off and landing sequences, adding a cultural touch to the event.
Originally, the Bali Kite Festival was a seasonal agrarian celebration to thank the heavens for bountiful crops and harvests. It has since transformed into a competitive arena where communal 'banjar' youth groups send their 'sekaa layangan' kite teams to vie for prize money.
